I'm not ready yet!!!

Well, we are "shopping" for a college for my son. I LOVE to shop, but not like this. Lucky for us the two colleges he is interested in are close enough for weekend visits. One is a very large college (furthest away). The other is half the distance, half the size and half the price. I am soooooo not ready for him to leave the nest. He is an only child. (MY BABY!!!) He is so ready for this independence, but I am not. I have always prayed that God would make him a strong, independent young man and every time he was ready to let go of my support I would always tell God, "I know I prayed for this but I'm not ready yet!" But I guess God answers prayers when He is ready, not when I am. So, here we go shopping for a college, Looking for a place to send my son to be on his own for the first time. I think he will be fine. NO, I KNOW HE WILL BE FINE! I'm not so sure about myself, but ready or not here we go!

What Do You Do?

What do you do when you are waiting for direction from God and it seems to be slow in coming? What do you do when everyone else's life around you seems to be moving forward and your's seems to be standing still? What do you do when you've said every prayer you can think of 100 times but still there is no answer, no direction? What do you do when you know you should be doing something but you don't know what? What do you do when everyone else is telling you what you should do but you know this is not what God is wanting you to do? What do you do when you feel no one is listening? Being that my dad passed away from congestive heart failure due to years of smoking, I would have to recommend that people stay away from  ALL tobacco stores. (or at least that section of a store)

I would have to say since most people not from this area totally freak at the thought of eating crawfish, my answer is crawfish. I also put mayonnaise on my red beans & rice. "Talk about good!"

Thirteen Things About Myself

1 ) I am in my mid 40's

2 ) I have been married to a wonderful man for almost 23 years & I am looking forward to growing old(er) together

3 ) I have 1 son, age 17 who fills my life with much love & laughter

4 ) I have 2 Maltese dogs (Gracie and Sabrina) with very different personalities.

5 )I like to exercise. Really I do. The part I don't like is having to drive to the gym. (Weird -- I know!)

6 ) I have some really great fun friends that are my extended family.

7 ) My son's best friends are the children of my friends mention in #6, so when we do friend things together we have our husbands &      teenagers with us.

8 ) I have only 1 sister. She is 3 years older. I love her & her family, but hardly ever get to see them. Thank God for phones & cell phones!

9 ) I am in a Bible Study Group with 3 fabulous women.

10) I love shopping on E-bay.

11) I love diet coke, but drink way to much of it.

12) I love the internet, but my addiction keeps me from doing housework. (Is that a bad thing?)

13) I have run out of things to say.

Sept. 11

Five years ago today, when I heard the devastating news that America was under attack, I was handing out school spirit shirts for my son's 8th grade class. It was his last year at this school. The next year would be a time for change for he and his friends. They would be starting High School. What a great year this should have been. The end of one season of their lives and looking forward to the beginning of another season. Instead the year was filled with fear about what the future would be like. Now 5 years later and his class is preparing to graduate from High School. They ironically are getting their spirit shirts this week. They should be looking forward to starting yet another season of their lives. Their worries should be about GPA's, ACT's. homecoming dates, exams, college visits, graduation. They have had to deal with not only 9/11 but also Katrina.  The tragedies these kids have been witness to have been overwhelming. I pray that this has made them stronger in their faith and more compassionate to others in times of need. I pray for all who have lost family and friends. I pray for this country, that we remain strong against our enemies and ready with open arms in times of tragedy. I pray... I pray... I pray...

I wish I could remember how many times we've been there and every memorable event that has taken place there. I wish I could tell you exactly why I love going. It's a town in Mississippi that was named after my best friends great grandfather. The house she grew up in is still there, up on a hill surrounded by acres of land. It's a place where we spend weekends with friends. It's a retreat away from work (bad cell phone reception). It's a place where our kids can go 4 wheeling, slide down the hill on a huge piece of plastic, or swing on the branch of the big tree in the back yard. It's a place where no one is on a diet. It was our shelter from Katrina. It's a place where we make new friends, or remember why we love our old friends. It's all this and so much more. It's Prentiss. It's a place I love.

Because of its cuteness

I met with a personal trainer today at the gym. Before I met her I ran into the Walgreen's next door to grab a bottle of water (I wanted her to think that I actually do something good for my body). When checking out the cashier asked if the particular water I was purchasing was different from others. I had to be honest and tell her that I selected this brand because the bottle is cute. (It's square instead of round.) You see I don't really like water. I don't know why, I just don't. I hardly ever drink it. I know its good for me and I should drink at least 8 glasses a day, but lately diet coke has become a replacement liquid for water. I should make up a list of why water is better for me than diet coke. The first thing on my list would have to be that the water bottle is cuter than the diet coke can. Do you think that should be reason enough for me to switch? Maybe that train of thought can help me with my diet. Let's see...   Grapes are cuter than potato chips. Kernels of corn are cuter than popcorn. Broccoli is cuter than ???? Whole wheat pasta is cuter than ???? Okay, but the water bottle is still cuter than the diet coke can!!!!

One more thing to keep me from doing the laundry.

My teenage son is in his senior year of high school which means that this time next year I'll be missing him terrably. I need hobbies to keep me busy (and keep me from doing the laundry!). I just recently stumbled onto this thing called blogging. Since I love, love, love the internet, I thought I would give it a try. I'm not real sure what to do or where to go but I'm willing to learn. I hope to make new friends and maybe discover a few things about myself along the way. I'm sure once I know what I'm doing it will keep me occupied for hours (and keep me from doing the laundry!). But then again I will have less laundry since he will no longer be living at home. At least until he comes to visit on weekends and brings a weeks worth of laundry with him. I guess seeing him at the front door with a big laundry bag of dirty clothes could possibly make me excited about laundry. Maybe, just maybe.
